Background[]
According to the game’s development bible it was designed "in the style of King's Quest," but with humor.
- Combining the hand-drawn, classic Video of gu animation of King's Quest VII, and the humor of Al Lowe, Sierra takes you to new levels of entertainment.
In the game you play as a young hero as he travels between each of the realms of his world Strata to reach the center of his world and defeat an evil wizard. It's a game that appeals to King's Quest fans.[1]
Designed by Al Lowe ( Leisure Suit Larry), Torin's Passage combines the magical storyline, feature film quality animations, and polished production values gamers have come to expect from Sierra's other landmark adventure game series, King's Quest. In fact, a recent review of "Torin's" in Computer Game Review began with the line "Why this game wasn't called 'King's Quest VIII' remains a mystery to me." But while Lowe admits to designing his game in the style of King's Quest, he has also made his own mark on the genre.
Girl in the Tower is heard playing in Tenebrous in Torin's Passage if he walks behind the curtain at the stage, as one of several audio samples.
Notes[]
- …the ease of use of King's Quest's VII, but with many gamer-customizable features and settings familiar Windows-standard pull-down menus allow saving at any.
Behind the scenes[]
The concept and art direction for KQ8 began in 1995 just after the release of Torin's Passage, and many of the members were culled from that game (this might also explain some of the puzzle similarities as far as certain tile/platforming/box style puzzles).
