The Official Book of King's Quest was hintbook series by Donald B. Trivette.
Background[]
A series guide including development information, hints for the series and maps. It was released in three editions. It does not add any lore, at least not in a strict sense, other than a few synopses explaining the plot of each game (and perhaps some character or location descriptions). Some of the game clues include fun facts and pop culture, and humor references (such as references to Indiana Jones, Elizabeth Taylor, Soupy Sales and Mark Spitz). Occasionally maps and some of the guide establish some additional location names/description not mentioned in any other source (or at least variations on titles given in other sources). The guides also include KQ related crossword puzzles. Many of the location names appear to have been taken from Sierra's BBS hint system, and possibly the phone hint system as well. See Snowy Mountains.
Walkthroughs added in the Third Edition, sometimes offer some general facts about certain characters and situations. It is these sections where few more details of lore can be found, for example in an extended discussion concerning Medusa or Rumplestiltskin, although some of these may be reference for humor more so than any serious purpose.
The first edition has a section with color photographs, but later editions have only black and white photos.
