Behind the scenes

In publisher synopses given out to stores for websites and catalogues he was apparently known as "Auberon" in earlier drafts. This was probably changed because its too close to "Oberon", who was a character that appeared in KQ7 which was released the year before, who was another "king of the fairies".

A dark, frigid winter has descended on Daventry. A blizzard that will not stop. A cold that will not die. This seems impossible--immediately beyond the Daventry boundaries, it is spring. Dark forces are at work, and King Graham does not know who or what. But Auberon, king of the fairies, does. His queen has been kidnapped by the vile creatures from beyond the Glass Mountain.

Auberon (French spelling for Oberon), is the king of fairyland, who appears in the chanson de geste Huon de Bordeaux.[2] Auberon (13th century) also refers to the title of another chanson de geste written as the prolgue to Huon de Bordeaux. Auberon also appears in Guivret the Chevalier Petit and Auberon in the French Aurthurian legends.[3]
