Perseus was a great hero who destroyed Medusa.

He was a hero, who once, had defeated Medusa by showing its own fatal reflection in a polished shield.[1]

Medusa was destroyed by Perseus, who cut off her head while she slept, using a polished shield to guide his blow so he would not have to look directly at the monster's face. From the dead creatures neck was born Pegasus.[2]

Behind the scenesEdit

In one version of the story Perseus received three gifts from Athena and Hermes including a magic sword, and the polished shield, and winged sandals. He used the polished shield to protect himself, while killed the creature with the magic sword.
