Behind the scenes[]
Mother Earth is a character mentioned in the Guidebook to the Land of the Green Isles.
In real world Mother Earth and Mother Nature may be synonymous terms for same concept or may represent similar but slightly different concepts. It may be title used for earth goddesses in any of the world's mythologies, often associated with the concept of mother goddesses in general.
In Greek Mythology, Mother Earth is associated with Gaia (Ge, which means land or earth), who was known as Tellus Mater or Terra Mater (Earth Mother) in Roman Mythology. She was the mother of Cronus.
In modern nomenclature she is often called Mother Nature, but Mother Nature is also often associated with Demeter/Ceres as well. She may be Ceres who is referred to as Mother Nature herself in KQ7, or other possible goddesses who share the role in other lore.
Demeter would take the place of her grandmother, Gaia, and her mother, Rhea, as goddess of the earth in a time when humans and gods thought the activities of the heavens more sacred than those of earth.
Ceres however was just the Roman goddess of agriculture (Demeter in Greek Mythology, and Anatolian goddess Cybele).
