King's Quest II Playthrough - Part 7 Apple IIGS-2

See 5:30 into the video.

Background[]

Upon looking in hole in KQ2, you discover King's Quest 3 plug.

The plug begins with King's Quest III logo, and plays enhanced King's Quest intro from King's Quest 1 Apple IIGS, up to the point that Gwydion walks up to the chicken coup gate in the demo. In the next screen while Gwydion is walking through the woods near the waterfall on the backside of the mountain the eagle flies by and cries out three times with digital recorded sound (the eagle also flies on a different path than it does in the PC demo, going behind the middle tree instead of in front of it, and passes behind the trees on the right as well, instead of in front of them). On the next screen as Gwydion walks towards edge of the snow drifts on top of the mountain, the abominable snowman enters the screen from the left and growls (with a large lion or tiger like sound). It does this several times while picking up Gwydion to take back to his cave. On next screen, Gwydion is exploring Manannan's laboratory when the evil wizard appears (playing what appears to be a very small snippet from his teleporting appearance them in KQ3 Apple IIGS full game), and then uses blasts Gwydion with lightning turning him to ash. While doing this a warbling electric/magical like sound is played. Then Manannan leaves with a 'whoosh' like sound (same as in the full game).

On the next screen Gwydion is walking around the beach, and another musical theme is played (unique to this version of the demo), before returning back to the game and Graham on the mountain top. The pathing of the shark is also different than it moves in PC version of the demo.

Script[]

m1 = " Become Gwydion, young slave to the\n" " evil wizard, Manannan of Llewdor.";

m1 = "Explore the countryside where Manannan\n" " reigns supreme.";

m1 = " Scale snowy peaks to tackle the\n" " Abominable Snowman in his mountain\n" " stronghold.";

m1 = "Discover the wizard's secret spells,\n" " and use his magic to free yourself\n" " from his captivity.";

m1 = "Find passage on a ship bound for\n" " places unknown. Embark upon a\n" " dangerous voyage to another land."; m2 = "And of course, match wits with the\n" " powerful wizard Manannan, whose every\n" " whim must be your command!";

Notes[]

  • The demo title music is Graham's Theme from KQ1 Apple IIGS (a variation also plays at end of full game when Gwydion meets Graham, and enhanced version also appears in KQ3 Apple IIGS).
  • The second musical cue appears to be a snippet of Manannan's teleportation theme in the full version of King's Quest III for Apple IIGS. Only a few notes plays instead of the longer version in the full game.
  • The last is a creepy theme that plays when the shark is moving around. This may be an original theme that doesn't appear in any version of KQ3. It maybe based on something classical.
