About KQ5[]
Prince Alexander has returned home and all seems well again. However, as things are prone to go, King Graham suffers a major heart attack and hovers near death. It's up to his daughter, Princess Rosella, to go in search of a magical fruit that will restore her father to perfect health again.
KQ5 Manual[]
Prince Alexander and Princess Rosella were tearfully and joyfully reuniting with their parents, King Graham and Queen Valanice, who had feared they had lost BOTH of their children to devious circumstances, when the stress of it all proved too much for King Graham. He was about to pass his old adventurer's hat on to his two children, when he was suddenly struck with a severe heart attack. As he doubled over in pain and fell to the floor, dropping the hat in the process, his wife and children rushed to him in a panic. The hat was quite forgotten and left lying on the throne room floor in the ensuing uproar.
As King Graham lie, near death, upon his bed, his wife and two children hovering worriedly over him, Princess Rosella was suddenly overcome with emotion at the terrible thought of her dear father dying. Sobbing, she ran from her father's chamber, and into the throne room where she knelt at his throne and wept uncontrollably into its cushioned seat, staining it with her tears. As she was thus preoccupied, a vision of a beautiful fairy suddenly appeared in the magic mirror hanging on the wall near the throne. The fairy spoke to Rosella, through the mirror, and told her of a magical healing fruit which grew in the faraway land of Tamir, where she herself lived. The fruit, Rosella was assured, would cure her father and bring him back to full health.
Of course eager to help her father in any way she could, Rosella learned that the fairy could magically transport her to Tamir, where she could find the healing fruit. But before returning home, she also learned, she would first need to need to help the beautiful fairy, whose name was Genesta, with a slight problem SHE had. Rosella immediately agreed to it; anything to help her dying father. She had no sooner assured the fairy of her help than she suddenly felt herself being magically transported from the throne room in her castle to a balmy beach in a strange land. The fairy Genesta appeared in person and informed Rosella of her need to have her talisman returned to her from her archenemy, the evil fairy Lolotte. Without it, Genesta would die in twenty-four hours. As it was, she was already becoming very weak.
Rosella's tasks were thus set. Not only must she save her father by obtaining a magical fruit, but she must also save the life of Genesta by obtaining a talisman from an evil fairy; and she had to do it all within twenty-four hours! Of course Rosella, being a very resourceful girl, managed to successfully avoid various perils thrown in her path while traveling throughout Tamir. She was victorious in her quest for the fruit; she managed to extricate the talisman from Lolotte and thus save Genesta's life; and she found a possible true love in the person of Edgar, Lolotte's kind-hearted son. True to her promise, the grateful fairy then sent Rosella immediately back to Daventry.
Upon her magical return to the throne room, Rosella picked up her father's hat still lying on the floor, and then rushed to his bed chamber. After giving King Graham the healing fruit which indeed restored him to perfect health, she proudly placed his old adventurer's hat upon his head, proclaiming that he was not yet ready to give it up; that he had many years and adventures still left in him. There were hugs all around, and the future looked very bright, for themselves and for Daventry.
And life in Daventry continues...

The Adventures of Princess Rosella (In which she saved the Life of her noble Father, and delivered the land of Tamir from sure Destruction)
The pure delight of the prince's homecoming and Rosella's rescue was fated not to last. During the happy celebrations poor King Graham collapsed, clutching his chest. The day's events had been too much for his stout heart to take. Just when it seemed that he would surely die, the beautiful fairy queen Genesta appeared to Rosella in the magic mirror. She told her of a magic fruit in the land of Tamir which would save her father's life. Genesta had been injured by the evil fairy Lolotte, who wished not only to kill her, but to take all of Tamir for herself. Lolotte had stolen a powerful Talisman from Genesta, which gave her the power to do just that, and perhaps take the rest of the world as well. Genesta lacked the strength to bring the fruit to Rosella, but she magically whisked the princess away to Tamir. The resourceful Rosella found the fruit fairly quickly (after befriending seven dwarves, evading a troll, and charming a snake, that is). Her triumph was cut short when Lolotte had Rosella snatched away by her flying minions, and taken to her castle. Clever Rosella convinced the wicked fairy that she was a mere peasant girl, so she was not killed outright. Instead, Lolotte demanded that Rosella bring her three treasures that Lolotte herself could not lay her hands on. With much effort, Rosella obtained each of the three treasures, and returned each to Lolotte. Poor Rosella! Despite her success, the Princess was greeted with the news that Lolotte intended not to set her free, but to give her to Edgar, the fairy's deformed son. Rosella was terrified. But much to her surprise, the kind youth Edgar provided her with a means of escape. Rosella slipped into Lolotte's chamber and pierced the fairy's black heart with cupid's arrow. The love carried on that golden arrow killed the evil fairy instantly. Rosella took the talisman from Lolotte's neck and began the arduous journey back to Genesta's island. With the talisman she healed the fairy queen. Genesta returned Rosella to Daventry, but not before healing Edgar's twisted form. She could not heal his pure heart, though, as it had broken for love of Rosella. The brave princess healed her father and all was well in the kingdom once more. For a little while, anyway.
The Royal Scribe[]

KQ7 Hintbook[]
The royal family of Daventry just can't get a break. During the big party after Alexander's return, poor King Graham collapsed. Watching his daughter almost get turned into Dragon Flambé and then suddenly finding his long-lost son was just too much for his heart to handle. It looked like he was headed down that final road to Angelville, when a fairy queen named Genesta appeared to Rosella in the magic mirror. She told Rosella that there was this magic fruit in a land called Tamir which would save Graham's life. Genesta couldn't get it herself, because she'd been beaten up by the local evil fairy, Lolotte, who wanted to take over Tamir. Lolotte had swiped Genesta's magic talisman, which was a really powerful thing. With it, Lolotte could take over not just Tamir, but probably the rest of the world as well. This was not good, because evil fairies just don't make caring world leaders. Genesta whisked Rosella away to Tamir so she could get the fruit herself. After befriending seven dwarves, ditching a troll, and charming a snake, Rosella found the fruit. Just then Lolotte sent some foul flying monkeys to snatch her up and carry her to the wicked fairy's castle. Rosella cleverly convinced Lolotte that she was just a peasant girl, which undoubtedly saved her bacon. Instead of killing her, Lolotte demanded that Rosella bring her three treasures which she hadn't been able to get for herself (bad fairies can't do everything, luckily). Rosella went out and got the three treasures, but when she got back, Lolotte laid a bombshell on her; she had decided to marry Rosella to her deformed son, Edgar. Rosella was mortified, but she found out that good looks aren't everything. Edgar, who was really a sweet guy, helped her escape from her room. Rosella crept into Lolotte's boudoir and shot her right through the heart with the golden arrow of Cupid. This caused the black-hearted fairy to have a love overload, and she dropped dead. Rosella took the talisman from her and headed back for Genesta's island. Using the talisman, Rosella fixed the severely sick Genesta right up. She also told the good fairy what a great guy Edgar was, so Genesta turned him into a gorgeous young dude. Edgar had fallen hard for Rosella, and he asked her to marry him, but Rosella was just a kid and she wasn't ready for marriage. She let poor Edgar down easy, and went back to Daventry to save her dad. The family was finally all together again. For about five minutes.
KQ7 Authorized Guide[]
King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella picks up at the very moment the prior game ended.
Before Graham's adventurer's cap touches the floor, he collapses as if dead. The good fairy, Genesta, appears to inform Rosella that the only way to save her father's life is to travel to the land of Tamir and bring back a magical fruit she will find there. Rosella agrees, Genesta poofs them to Tamir, and then tells the princess that she won't be able to take the fruit home unless she first recovers the fairy's magic Talisman from the evil (surprised?) Lolotte. And you thought used-bridge salespeople are a tad liberal with the entire truth.
Undaunted, but perhaps a bit miffed, Rosella quests on and finds the magic fruit. In the great tradition of both her mother and brother, however, she gets herself kidnapped by Lolotte, a wicked witch down to the green of her skin. Her son Edgar leers, drooling, over her shoulder. Lolotte demands Rosella bring her a unicorn in order to escape death.
After escaping from the belly of a whale in order to satisfy Lolotte's demand, Rosella returns with a unicorn.
The ungrateful witch demands a second gift, the hen that lays golden eggs. For this Rosella needs to escape a princess-eating ogre. A hungry princess-eating ogre. And his wife.
Mission accomplished, Lolotte is still not finished with Rosella. This time she wants Pandora's Box.
Rosella is not pleased, of course, but three deadly crones, one mummy, a couple of ghosts, and a graveyard filled with hungry zombies later, she staggers back with the required item. Lolotte is ecstatic. But instead of freedom, her reward is to be marriage to Edgar - a fate worse than death. She is imprisoned in Edgar's bedroom.
A small noise is heard at the door, and a rose is slipped under it. It's a rose concealing the key to her prison. Rosella escapes the room and finds her way to Lolotte's bedroom. She opens the door and is able to shoot an Arrow of Lovethrough Lolotte's black heart. The witch melts, and Rosella is able to recover Genesta's Talisman.
Rosella makes her away back to Genesta's castle with the Talisman and magic fruit. There she discovers that the rose had been slipped to her by Edgar, who really wasn't as bad as he was set up to be. Genesta rewards Edgar by transforming him into a beautiful prince. Rosella is returned in a flash to Castle Daventry where the magic fruit restores King Graham to full health and provides a happy ending to the game.
