Sir Grahame[]
In this game the main character is named Sir Grahame.
He is later known as Graham in later ports and rereleases.
Grahame's physique[]
Graham is portrayed in artwork for this game as a skinny and lanky individual. Or as a knight in shining armor on the package.
In later ports and rereleases, and stories he is usually portrayed as a very muscled individual.
Edward’s backstory[]
Edward is not directly faulted for the kingdom’s decline, thought it has been hit by disasters in recent times. Otherwise he just worried that he has no heir or relatives to take over upon his death. He has no wife, suggesting he may never have married as well. So he sees Graham and potential replacement I’d he can save the kingdom.
Quest of the Three Treasures[]
In this universe the three treasures were not stolen but are legendary lost treasures rumored to have been hidden in Daventry. Edward has recently heard rumors of these treasures and believes they may be the only hope to save the kingdom from its decline.
This version of the game has a unique prologue story that closer matches Edward’s command at the beginning of the game (and other AGI ports and releases).
See The King's Appeal.
The Sorcerer[]
In the Sorcerer has a different character sprite in this version that also appears on some other early 1984 ports of the game.
Depending on which versions of the KQ1, the sorcerer is either his own character, or in later rerelease becomes the enchanter from KQ2.
The Official Book of King's Quest series goes with them being different characters as per the 1984 releases.
The Companion goes with them being being the same character based on the 1987 releases.
World Scale[]
The world or worlds of Daventry is a single country that wraps around its entire world.
Daventry's world has a three-dimensional quality about it, places "wrap around" like countries on a globe. Imagine Daventry as a country so large it bends around the world.
See Daventry cosmology and Magical law of "containment".
Earth’s past?[]
According to the manual the game takes place…in the days when knights were bold and brave.
