Graham is a character that appears in the King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown (aka King's Quest 1: Quest for the Crown). While the other two remakes (for King's Quest II and King's Quest III) were never released, the The Official Book of King's Quest VI (aka The Official Book of King's Quest, Third Edition) followed the series timeline from the remake up to KQ6. This timeline, and Graham's actions in it, has a few differences OT timeline, and others.
Background[]
Graham is allowed into the the castle by two guards. He passes through the castle courtyard, then into the keep, and throne room. He bows, and Edward explains his last Quest (his King's Quest) to Sir Graham. Graham collects the treasures in the order the Land of the Clouds (Chest of Gold), the Old Well (Magic Mirror), and finally the Land of the Leprechauns (Magic Shield) (or alternatively see TOBOKQ timeline). This turned out to be in a separate order than the King presented them to him.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The original order as presented by Graham in the original King's Quest (see Graham (OT)), Graham collected them in the order of the Old Well (Magic Mirror), the Land of the Leprechauns (Magic Shield), and finally Land of the Clouds (Chest of Gold). This followed the order as Edward asked for the treasures when Grahame/Graham talked to him in the 1983-1987 versions of the game.
The official book of King's Quests, 2nd Edition sticks mostly to the original KQ1 version of puzzles, but puts them order of the treasures as Dragon's Lair (Mirror), Land of the Clouds (Chest of Gold), and Land of the Leprechauns (Magic Shield).[2]
The 3rd Edition, however is updated to focus on the remake (instead of the original AGI version). A couple of sections keeps it in the same order as the previous two editions, those editions ironically foreshadowed the order of the treasures in KQ1 SCI remake. Additionally third edition adds artwork showing Graham SCI remake visiting the locations in that order, as well as picking up the pebbles which had been moved to the lake shore, with the text updated to focus on the remake over the original. The third edition also has a questions and answers hint section that follows this same order as well. It shares this order with the the King's Quest Companion's Easy Way Out in the 1st Edition.
However, also, in the 3rd Edition is a all-new walkthrough section which places the order as; Land of the Clouds (Chest of Gold), Old Well (Magic Mirror), and finally the Land of the Leprechauns (Magic Shield). This is an equally reliable timeline that is possible to do in the remake KQ1.
In King's Quest Companion, the Easy Way Out section lists the lost treasures in the order of; magic mirror, magic chest, and magic shield. However, in the 1st edition walkthrough, he still collects them in the order of Mirror, Shield, and Magic Chest (as in the order they were stolen, and collected in the KQ2 Hintbook, and the TKQC novel).
However, 2nd-third editions they are changed to Mirror, Chest, and Shield, likely to follow a shared order between KQ1 AGI and remake's specific order ending with the shield. And also an order shared in the various editions of the The Official Book of King's Quest.
Graham in the remake is told to find the treasures in the order they were stolen; the magic mirror, the magic shield, and magic chest. He returns them to Edward in the exact same order as magic mirror, magic shield, and magic chest. However, he doesn't find them in that order as already mentioned. Instead either as magic chest, magic shield, and magic mirror or as magic mirror, magic shield, and finally the magic chest.[3][4]

- ↑ When Sierra converted King's Quest I to the SCI language in late 1990 (see Chapter 2 for information about AGI and SCI), the designers made some changes to make the Quest a little easier to complete. Although the older AGI version is no longer sold in stores, there are hundreds of thousands of copies around, so we decided to leave the Points of Interest (pages 52-54) unchanged. If you are playing the new SCI version, you should consider the following variations. The Quest now begins with a cartoon that automatically takes you into the castle to meet old King Edward. The front of the castle was expanded to three screens, but that was done for aesthetic reasons and does not affect the play. The scoring was slightly changed, although the total number of points remains the same; the scoring in Appendix C is for the AGI version. Three changes, however, are significant. The pebbles were moved from the riverbank to a lakeshore because that location looked more like a place where pebbles could be found. If you're working the crossword puzzle in this chapter, please note that change. You must find the magic mirror and the treasure chest before you'll be allowed to find the magic shield. In the AGI version, if you find the shield first, you are then protected for the rest of the Quest, and there's not much challenge left. 50 King's Quest I The third change is the solution to the problem of the gnome's name. Almost no one could (can) figure it out in the AGI version, so it was changed in the new version to what everyone thought it should have been. Since this is one of the most frequently asked questions, Appendix D contains a clue for the AGI player. The SCI player needs only a hint found in the witch's bedroom.
