Graham (or Grahame and also Graham Cracker) is classic character from the original King's Quest Classic (all versions between 1983-1987), King's Quest II (1985-1987 versions), and seen at the end of KQ3 in the OT timeline (this refers to the prologue stories by Annette Childs). He also appears in later games, and playable again in KQ5. This article mostly focuses on his original trilogy appearances, and references to the characters events found in the Game realities (in particular the KQ1 and KQ1 Hintbook's focusing on low point version of events).

See The King's Appeal, King's Quest by Roberta Williams Manual, King's Quest I Hint Book, and King's Quest II Hintbook.

Background[]

Graham enters the castle, to meet with the king, but doesn't bow to his lord. Graham collects the treasures-in the order of the Old Well (Magic Mirror), the Land of the Leprechauns (Magic Shield), and finally Land of the Clouds (Chest of Gold). This followed the order he was given by Edward, when he talked to the king (as well as the order they had been stolen from Daventry).[1]

Graham enters the well by sitting in the bucket and lowering to the bottom. At the bottom Graham killed The Dragon with a sword he had found in forest under a rock near the castle. Graham is forced to climb out of the dragon's lair by climbing out back through the well.

After riding on a condor to an island, the Land of the Leprechauns. He got the mushroom, and entered into the caves underneath the island. He gave a treasure to the rat[2]. The Leprechauns sense the four leaf clover, and avoid Graham. But graham is not able to pick up the the note. He may not have killed the witch (only if she entered the cottage, while he was there searching her bedroom). Graham finds pebbles near the river-bend of the River Fools. Lost his dagger, trying to throw it at the troll. Graham gives a treasure to the Troll, who lets him cross over to an island and meet Rumplestiltskin. Graham is unable to guess the gnome's name and receives the gold key that unlocks the way into the Door into Mountain. Graham climbs the Staircase inside the mountain. He finds a slingshot in a tree up there. He kills the giant with a sling and stone, takes the chest, and climbs back down the mountain staircase. He returns to the king, and becomes the next king of Daventry.

A year later, Graham travels to Kolyma to find a wife. Graham gives a treasure to the mermaid, He waves the trident to open the clam and takes the trident back to the surface. He takes the cage when Hagatha is not home, and carries the squawking bird out of the dage. Graham gives the two treasures to the old lady, who gives him a lamp with a genie. The genie gives him three treasures. At the top of the cliffs. He kills the snake with the sword. He finds the second key. Gives one of the treasures to the shrouded ghoul. Goes through the brambles carefully avoiding the deadly thorns. He uses a silver get past the ghosts (or even the cloak and ring, if he found it). He didn't kill Dracula (since he apparenlty didn't find the stake and mallet). Graham killed the lion at the top of the tower. He does make it home to Kolyma with Valanice using the amulet he found on the island.

Notes[]

  • In KQ1, he either didn't get the magic ring, or used it to get past the random enemies

Behind the scenes[]

In this version of the character, the hintbooks treat more violent or lower point options as the 'primary solutions' to the story (less violent method is the secondary 'secret solution').

The TOBOKQ timeline offers a different order to finding the treasures the Original King's Quest in the first and second editions. In the third it shares this order with one of two orders given the 3rd edition on how to find the treasures in the remake version of KQ1. See Graham (remake).

The King's Quest Companion's novel for KQ1 follows the order mirror, shield, and finally chest as in the backstory of how they were stolen.

For some reason, the Easy Way Out section lists the lost treasures in the order of; magic mirror, magic chest, and magic shield. However, in the 1st edition walkthrough, he still collects them in the order of Mirror, Shield, and Magic Chest (as in the order they were stolen).

However, 2nd-third editions they are changed to Mirror, Chest, and Shield, likely to follow a shared order between KQ1 AGI and remake's specific order ending with the shield.

  1. I have knowledge of the existence of three things that would make our kingdom wealthy and strong. Somewhere within our kingdom, there is a magic mirror that foretells the future. There is a magic shield that will protect the bearer from all harm. Finally, there is a magic chest that is always filled with gold coins.
