The Enchanted Isles are an island chain in the World of Daventry (KQGS) that lies near to the sea of Neptune's Kingdom (KQGS) it is considered part of Kolyma (KQGS). It is inspired by the Enchanted Isles from the original King's Quest games (and the King's Quest Companion).

Background[]

The Enchanted Isles are considered part of the land of Kolyma. However, it’s not clear if its a smaller land within boundaries of Kolyma (KQGS), islands under jurisdiction of Kolyma (if the kingdom is part of the continent of Daventry (KQGS) in the Midwestern Hemisphere), or the designation of the islands that make up all of Kolyma.

Very little is known about the extent of the geography and location of Kolyma. It’s not known how it earns its designation of being islands, as to if it’s surrounded by seas, lakes, wetlands or rivers or a combination of such. Parts of it are at least near the sea and Neptune's Kingdom (KQGS), and there is evidence of rivers and or lakes as well in Kolyma’s topography. Based on local geography of Kolyma it appears it is attached to main continent of Daventry (KQGS), and may be a large island, surrounded by rivers, wetlands and the sea. The region contains smaller kingdoms known as Eastern Kolyma and Western Kolyma (it is not clear if these lands are connected or are islands divided by rivers, lakes or wetlands, and it appears they lie south east and south west of the Kingdom of Daventry proper). Hagatha's Tower is able to move between the various lands on the back of its mechanical chicken legs.

There also appears to be a relation or connection to Avalon (KQGS), and Tanalore (KQGS) (though these lands are geographically part of the continent of Daventry). When the tower is moving about, the Hobblepots are able to see the tower in the distance out at sea near Tanalore (either standing in the water or on some island out there). While it’s moving around the Squirrel Ruins of Avalon can be seen as well, but may also be considered islands by virtue of being surrounded by rivers, wetlands and the sea.

Locations and Islands[]

Behind the scenes[]

If a couple of lines in Chapter 3 do confirms that the two Kolymas are not part of the Enchanted Isles, then the Enchanted Isles are part of Kolyma's territory. The first reference is when Graham mentions that the tower is in Kolyma specifically: "The mirror showed me a magical reflection of a tower far away in the kingdom of Kolyma." Another of the references is when Graham falls from the tower while climbing it, he narrates: It was spring in Kolyma, but I still wasn't over fall. But at the same time he also mentions he was in the Enchanted Isles when he reaches the location where the tower is in Kolyma."I suppose there's no better place to start than at the beginning, when my travels led me to the Enchanted Isles." The comment that his travels led to the Enchanted Isles doesn’t necessarily mean that he was in the enchanted isles when he is first seen in the mountains but rather it shows his travels to the islands, and he didn’t reach the islands until he actually made it to the location of the tower (how he crossed the seas, lake or wetlands surrounding the island is not shown possibly leaving room for to have teleported there using a magic door or some other method such as magic carpet, or boat. Or if only surrounded by rivers and shallow wetlands he simply hopped over to and walked across to it. In the original series for example both the Mushroom Isle and Gnome Isle are surrounded by rivers but ultimately landlocked inside of the kingdom of Daventry itself.

The Enchanted Isles and other locations appear to be geographically different than they appear in previous series, while its suggested that they exist to the far south which is reasonable for both Kolyma and Enchanted Isles based on released maps, Tanalore is a continent to the northwest of Daventry and not far south, whereas in this series it appears to be a lesser island within the chain. Avalon is less clear, but references to it in original series were limited to begin with.

The term Enchanted Isles is itself a reference to the Companion as it is the only source to use the term, albeit the meaning is reimagined. In the Companion the exact location of the isles was treated as mysterious and unknown with location placed on the map with the artist unsure if it was in correct spot. Thus it sometimes shifted places in put into different seas on the maps. Some speculated if it even existed in the same world or not. In one passage discussing unknown and mysterlious rumors of lands of the world it even somewhat links the mysterious red seas/blue islands and enchanted isles with a description of Mordack’s Evil Island. Likewise the maps weren’t always clear where the location of Mordack’s island and Harpy Island were located as well, sometimes flipping the two islands placements on the maps.

Little is known of the rest of the world, beyond the occasional tales of wanderers from unknown parts, the ravings of shipwrecked sailors, and the wild tales gasped out by those who staggered out of the mountains or deserts or the darkest of caves. There are tales of a place where the oceans are red and the sands are blue. Some claim to have seen islands that do not float in the waves, but hover above them; enchanted islands, perhaps the homes of great wizards. Kingdoms beneath the sea, jungles containing beasts the size of mountains and cities containing people the size of peas, are rumored to exist as well. If they don't exist at the moment, they will on some tomorrow.

Perhaps it’s possible much in same way that most of major lands are merged into the same continent, the various deserts merged into the Infinite Desert, perhaps all the magical islands have been merged into the Enchanted Isles. Places like Enchanted Isle, Mordack’s Island, Genesta’s Island, Harpy Island, etc. Additionally, a reference to whales near Tanalore (KQGS) which lies near the islands could also suggest Tamir (KQGS) is located on same continent near to the islands. Note: The Land of the Green Isles (KQGS) still appears to be a separate island chain. However if the Isles of Logic is a reference to the Cliffs of Logic, it might possible that the Green Isles are located in or near the Enchanted Isles and Kolyma.

Avalon (KQGS) (the exact nature of this location is not clear, but there appears to be a connection to Kolyma based on ruins found in both locations, it might even be located in Kolyma somewhere, or alternatively on same island/continent as Daventry near Serenia (KQGS)). The Squirrel Ruins seen soon after the tower starts moving maybe in Avalon.

In Chapter 4, depending on your choice of princesses in the first chapter, it appears to suggest that Vee or Neese's Kolyma lies to the East or West of Daventry.

Graham mentions he was originally from the north or far north in Chapter 3 before coming to live in Daventry, but he doesn't specify that Kolyma is "South" in relation to Daventry, so its possible that both Kolymas lie to the East and West of the Kingdom of Daventry, or southeast and southwest of the kingdom. This of course makes the direction of the "Enchanted Isles" itself unknown, or even questions the exact make up what is considered part of the Enchanted Isles. Which may call into the question if the 'Island" where Graham first reaches the tower is in Kolyma or not (though Chapter 3 does seem to suggest that Enchanted Isles and Kolyma are one and the same).
